For three days now I’ve been trying to diet. I suck at it. I’m so hungry. I didn’t care this much about food before. What the hell? But something has to give. I want a piece of my son’s birthday cake so bad right now though. Ugh.

    First, try to remember you won’t “blow” your diet by having a piece of cake. You won’t even blow your diet if you sit down and eat the entire cake by yourself. You won’t do yourself any favors, either, but thinking of a slimming regime as something that must be this or that is just setting yourself up for failure. Second, make a deal with yourself. A trick I use to help myself is very simple: fresh fruit. If I feel hungry, I must first eat a piece of fresh fruit. If I’m hungry after that, I can eat something else. Two things happen with this: one, I stop senseless anxiety eating because the fruit makes me feel like I’ve consumed something, and two, I get more fruit, which is just a healthy thing to do. And three, most importantly – begin thinking long term. Aim for dropping a dress size over six months or a year rather than a month. It’s better for you, and you’re more likely to keep the weight off.

      Very true… Probably thinking of it as a diet isn’t helping either

    You can set 80-20 rule. Eat 80% healthy and 20% less healthy. Diets don’t work. Is just about eating healthy. It works for me better to think this way. And you are struggling maybe of sugaraddiction. That is hard. You CAN do it but don’t be hard on yourself! You are only a human.
